FILE HEALTH CLIPS May 16, 1957 REPORT LINKS CANCER WITH DRINKING KENNETH BANGHART at 11:00 P.M. over WRCA (N.Y.): "We've heard about cancer and smoking, reported evidence that one may be linked to the other although the extent of the connection has yet to be fully established. Tonight we have a report that links cancer with drinking--heavy drinking especially of of whiskey. The information has been published in a British medical journal by two doctors, Ernest Winder and Irwin Bross who are associated with the Sloan-Kettering Institute of New York. "They report the results of a recent survey and say it shows heavy consumption of alcohol, particularly of whiskey, is a significant factor among patients with mouth cancer. The doctors say the whiskey drinker runs a much larger risk of developing mouth cancer than the person who drinks wine and beer."
