Simmons DATE: December 2, 1981 SUBJECT: QUALITY SUMMARY Please find attached the data sheets and associated graphs for the week and month ending November 30, 1981. The following observations were made during the week: 1. KOOL 100's tobacco weights averaged low at 824.1 mgs. 2. KOOL 100's In-cigarette moisture averaged low at 13.62. Adjustments have been made to bring it closer to the target. 3. KOOL KS and KOOL Milds in-cigarette menthols averaged slightly above target levels at .346 and .4178, respectively. 4. A 35% improvement in KOOL Long's appearance level was noted over last week. This was due to a reduction in wrinkled cigarettes. Studies are continually being done to make permanent improvements in this area. 5. Air pocket defects increased for all brands. This area will be investigated to determine the cause of this increase. 6. Torn/cut cigarette defects for all brands also increased. This increase will be discussed with Fabrication Maintenance for resolution. 7. Package defects decreased for all brands. Additional improvements are expected in the future with the use of Morprop film and hooded heater modifications. All other data results were on or near target levels. If questions arise, please advise. L.D. REED F. W. SIMMONDS 9 ATTACHMENTS
