Export casing kitchen construction schedule is recovering. The walls are in place and the roof is poured. 2. The contractor (Vandarver) for the Export shipping building is making good progress, primarily on underground work. 3. The offer on the Blacksburg property was accepted. The deal now depends on board approval. 4. Redryer static commissioning is all but complete. The work now is primarily dynamic commissioning. BUDA 1. Work to define equipment for project RAINBOW continues in parallel with process development. An agreement was signed with a consultant for assistance in the definition of packaging equipment. 2. Export Rationalization Shipping: Conveyor layouts have been finalized and a contract for purchase and installation is under requisition. Manufacturing Supplies: Work continues to identify a viable operating concept for export supplies. Primary: Work continues to issue the packing mechanical design package by mid-October. Procurement is approximately 90% complete exclusive of cut tobacco storage which is on hold. A preliminary concept has been defined for the handling of Big-Pak boxes. 3. Detail design work has been started for the installation for a stem shredder in Macon. 4. Preliminary layout concepts have been done for reworking the infeed to the Macon WTS system and to blend graded stem. MARSHALL 1. SDS: Meeting held with Product Department representatives to define future in-cigarette testing requirements. Plans are for further Dupont testing of D.C.-generated SDS, and CPT testing to be probably deferred until the Macon shredder is available for product manufacture. 2. Stem Grading: (a) Meeting report issued that describes the concepts as discussed with ELT. (b) Macon is preparing warehouse space to receive and store grades of stem. To expedite this, we have arranged to run down Macon stem inventory by holding up shipments from Wilson for one week. 3. MET: Late September cross-check data continues to find Macon measuring 0.5 cc/g lower than RD&E in Borgwaldt fill value. Moisture differences appear to still be the cause, though another bias is also appearing. Apparently MET fill value increases with age: up to 0.5 cc/g over a 3-day period. However, this age bias is not contributing to the Macon RD&E 4. Ammonia: (a) Program note issued that describes the series of experiments currently being conducted by the Process Department. (b) Ammonia treated SAMSUN samples processed for Project SHIP. 5. Export Design Support: HHD strip drying experiments were completed. Results reveal it will be considerably more difficult to dry strip compared to cut rag. About 80-100ºF higher dryer temperature plus about a 25% reduction in throughput rate will be the constraints on Macon strip drying. 6. Pressurized Casing: This project is moving ahead now with batch-size equipment construction about 30% complete. ZWIBBEL 1. R&R mini-load start up is scheduled for October 8, 1984. The E/K data base will be loaded Saturday/Sunday so the system will be ready for third shift start-up Sunday night. 2. Preliminary design for fabrication scheduling is progressing well. A design document will be ready for review the week of October 22. 3. The software design for production of case labeling and stenciling was approved. The software will be developed by Macon MIS. An April 2 target date has been established. The software will be used to produce "internal case labels" and shipping case marking/labeling (stenciling). The software can be used in the future for other labeling requirements such as export materials, promotion samples, etc. 4. Discussions have taken place with five companies on making the charges to the shipping system software. Final negotiations and the signing of a contract should take place by 10/15/84. 5. LABDATA design is approximately 50% complete. A design review on international, competitive monitoring, and production monitoring will be scheduled around the 22nd of October. 6. Software development to allow the profileometer to communicate with a 200 series H.P. computer is complete. The 200 computer has basically been installed in the instrument development lab. We're waiting on delivery for some minor items. 7. The Development Center CAD equipment is scheduled for deliver 12/31/84. Bob will be putting together a training and implementation plan.
