Included, for addressees directly involved in material testing, is an updated detailed test status report for all active MTC tests. The next MTC meeting is scheduled for Thursday, 01/11/96, at 8:30 AM in R & D's "Burley" conference room. MATERIAL TEST COMMITTEE DECISIONS AS OF 12/07/95: 1. 94-26 Filtrona Limited approved as new supplier of CAPRI 120 NM filter rods. 38-0333. 2. 94-99 Federal cartons using Timco top lacquer. Top lacquer approved for use if needed by purchasing. 3. 95-58 Hoescht 80 gauge film approved for use. Eighteen (18) Million rods on order for long term machinability trail. Due approx. 10/17/95. Designated with material code 38-0331. 11/27/95 - Test lot nearly completed with satisfactory results. 12/07/95 - Test lot completed, MTC recommends approval for FIL to manufacture these rods as 38-0333. 94-27 Demarest/King, Filtrona Limited Capri 120 M filter rods (38-0341). 10/05/95 - One-half million machinability run completed with satisfactory results. However, AFC will continue to manufacture this rod as 38-0352. 94-29 H Demarest/King, Filtrona Limited Capri Ultra filter rods (38-0370T). 10/05/95 - One-half million machinability run completed with satisfactory results. 11/27/95 - Project on hold pending cost issues. 12/07/95 - These rods will qualify for manufacturing by FIL upon satisfactory completion of MTC 94-27. However, AFC will continue to manufacture this rod as 38-0372. 94-61 N Lester/Porenski, Schoeller/Hoesch, 18-0210 plug wrap. Testing to include sensory, and porosity history. 12/19/95 no info yet 09/15/95 - AMAC review in progress. Priority changed to normal, testing to be assigned. 12/07/95 - Phase I testing scheduled for 1st Quarter 1996. AMAC review in progress. 94-65 N Neiheisel/Ruberti, Federal offset inks on Lucky Strike assembled by various colors on test FOBs. Colors include green, black, red, buff, and multi-banded. 09/15/95 - Static testing to be completed. Sensory failure on red with non-menthol product. Another sample to be submitted. Testing to again include non-menthol and menthol product. Issues of interaction and solvent types to be addressed. 11/27/95 - Additional sample stocks being collected. 12/07/95 - T. Neiheisel to order all red packaging for full R&D testing. Manufacturer to be sent turkey bags to provide samples. Material is expected in on 01/01/96. 94-86 R Freshour/King, Carton long flap adhesive application system. (National Adhesives.) 09/15/95 - Machine trials in progress. Testing to also include new "Pack-tek" adhesive applicators. AMAC approves. 10/05/95 - Machine trials of National 8227-107 unsatisfactory. Reformation of resin/wax ratio in the glue. New samples due to arrive approx. 10/20/95. Sensory samples to be made at that time. 11/27/95 - PAFRA retrials in progress, Pactec (Focke-mod 116) also using during "Run-in". 12/07/95 - PAFRA and Focke 4350 trials look promising using the new adhesive 72-4353. New adhesive has passed sensory and AMAC requirements. Tax stamping to be scheduled on the new adhesive. 94-96 R Freshour/King Improved heat seal coating on Summit tear tapes. (8966-C). 08/24/95 - Phase II machine trial showed better pack seals for test item 8966. Longer trials to be coordinated. 09/15/95 - Sixty bobbins on order. MTC agrees to approve if this run successful. AMAC approved 12/94. 10/05/95 - Summit to provide samples ASAP. 12/07/95 - 58 sample rolls received, fabrication trials to be scheduled ASAP. 94-99 L Neiheisel/King Federal cartons using Timco top lacquer. 10/05/95 - Material reorder required. Sensory samples need to be completed upon receipt. 11/27/95 - Sensory in progress. Canceled per Neiheisel. 12/07/95 - Timco top lacquer has been approved for future use if necessary. 94-101 N Lester/Ruberti Swiss Barclay cigarette paper from KC to replace Demauduit (13-0670). 08/24/95 - Material received, new samples to be prepared. 12/07/95 - Sample opportunity 12/14/95. 95-26 L Demarest/Gentile, Bugler institutional. 08/24/95 - Cryovac BDF-1000 and Dupont candidates to be reviewed by AMAC. 09/15/95 - Cryovac approved by AMAC. MTC approves after assurance of satisfactory machine trials. No other candidates to be tested at this time. 11/27/95 - Machinability testing to be repeated after machine changes due to be completed in 1996. Priority to Low. 95-30 N Lester/Porenski Wattens cigarette paper WT-416 and WT-427. 08/24/95 - No activity. 09/15/95 - R/D testing to be discussed with K. St. Charles. Samples to be made ASAP. Porenski to coordinate testing. 10/05/95 - Phase I testing to be completed upon receipt of Fuller and National Hot melt candidates. 11/27/95 - Phase II (KDF 2) completed with 0 rod breaks. Phase III run of 10 pallets on both KDF 2's and 3's to be coordinated. AMAC approves. 12/07/95 - Testing to be scheduled upon receipt of phase III materials. 95-37 N Neiheisel/Ruberti, Lawson GPC 100's using Federal 10pt board. 05/04/95 - Neiheisel to assure supplier understands scoring/ counterplate issues. 06/09/95 - Testing now to also include use of cross-grain fiber orientation. T. Neiheisel to order 2 pallets and forward material code used. 07/14/95 - GPC Lights to be used. Material due end of July. AMAC has approved. 10/05/95 - Six rolls of Kings and 100 size film ordered to further check machinability if good results received, 10 to 12 pallets will be ordered. 11/27/95 - Testing to be scheduled. Good pack seals to be assured. 12/07/95 - Testing scheduled for 12/14/95. 95-43 R Ruberti, Fade testing matrix for Mead, Westvaco, Federal. 08/14/95 - Testing includes 55 and 60 LB paper stock, 10 and 11 pt board stock, each with and without top lacquer. All paper stock and Federal SBS completed. Fade more apparent with Mead and Federal. Awaiting Westvaco SBS test material. 08/24/95 - Westvaco board received. Fades in progress. 09/15/95 - Westvaco board fade testing showed good results. Mead and Federal working on permanent fix. 10/05/95 - Samples of an improved Federal board are being sent in for AMAC and fade approval. ? 11/27/95 - Improved Federal board received, fades to be processed. Testing matrix to include Temple and Temboard stock. 12/07/95 - Results of Mead fade testing due in week of 12/14/95. 95-44 Freshour/Porenski, Water Dispersible Hot Melt Development Trials. 09/15/95 - H. Porenski to coordinate. AMAC has approved National, Fuller versions in progress. Testing to include trials with Ecusta's non-porous plug wrap. 10/05/95 - Fuller still trying to formulate a candidate. National is trying its candidate on KDF 2 and KDF 3 in Germany. 11/27/95 - Awaiting Fuller candidate. In Europe, National candidate (70-3850) ran well on KDF 3 at 600 meters/minute. 12/07/95 - Fuller candidate currently under AMAC review. 95-48 N Simmons, Celanese 2.3 X 34,000 filter tow as a replacement for Celanese 2.6 X 42,000. 11/27/95 - Phase I satisfactory. More trials in progress. 12/07/95 - Phase II trial completed. Results very satisfactory. Test two (2.3 x 34,000) demonstrates significant yield improvements. Reduction of .1 mm. 11/27/95 - Development specs changed, new codes issued. 12/07/95 - Implementation proceeding, data to be collected on results. 95-77 Simmons, Modifications of 0370 tow from Celanese to improve yield and eliminate recessed ends. (33-0550) 12/07/95 - Phases I and II completed, specification approval in process. 95-78 Demarest, Weyerhaeuser as supplier of TTT bulk containers. Alternate to Union Camp (65-0420). 11/27/95 - AMAC evaluation shows that preservatives used in corrugated adhesive contained an unacceptable preservative; however, the AMAC has been informed by Tri-Wall that this preservative is not present in the initial stock received. Re-evaluation will be required before additional orders are placed. 12/07/95 - Teabag test to be completed on existing inventory. 95-79 Neiheisel, Kromacorp inks on Viceroy KS FOB for Shorewood.
