Pennsauken, N.J. -- Jose Parica of La Puente, Calif. strengthened his lead in the Camel Pro Billiards Series year-long point fund race with a string win here tonight. With 494 Camel Series points, Parica is 90 points ahead of Buddy "The Rifleman" Hall, who moved into second place in the standings with a total of 405 points after his second place finish in the $90,000 tournament. Along with his top ranking in the point standings, Parica took the $18,000 first place check, defeating Buddy Hall 9-8 in the finals. Hall grabbed $9,000 for his efforts. Third place winner David Smith of Dahlgren, Va. has improved to 14th from 34th, and fourth place finisher Rodolfo Luat of the Philippines is in 8th place. Parica adds the South Jersey title to his win in the Camel Pro Billiards Series Boston Open for a pair of back-to-back victories. Parica and Hall both advance through the field of the 80 to the finals undefeated until they first faced each other in the sixth round of the winner's side bracket for the right to advance directly to the final four match-up. Parica sent Hall to the one-loss side with a 9-5 defeat, and Hall defeated Francisco Bustamante of Kiel, Germany 9-8 to advance to the finals. Once there, "The Rifleman" bested Rodolfo Luat 9-4, and David Smith 9-7, who had been dispatched to the one-loss side of the final four bracket by Parica 9-6. The Camel series next moves to Oklahoma where $50,000 is on the line at the Camel Pro Billiards Series Tulsa Open. The 9-Ball contest will be held at Magoo's in Tulsa, Nov. 19-23. Then it's on to Denver for the final event of the season, the Camel Pro Billiards Series Denver Open. The $90,000 10-Ball tournament will be immediately followed by the year-end awards where the quarter-million dollar point fund will be awarded to the top 24 finishers in the point standings.
