Reynolds Tobacco Company has been formally advised by the Federal Trade Commission that it "has close the investigation" of the Joe Camel matter. Clearly, we are pleased and feel vindicated that our position has been correct -- that while youth may recognize Joe Camel, the character has not caused them to start smoking. We believe it is significant that the last three the commission ers made their decision based on the law and the facts made decision based on fact & law and not "intuition or otherwise unfounded but emotionally appealing arguments" claims of some research that unqualified but self proclaimed experts in field of advertising despite enormous pressure from antismoking advocates industry and some in the media who urged them to do otherwise.
