To a RB flash - (500ml)- was added 18.8g menthol (natural) and 8.5g formulaname . The mixture was studied ~ 1 hr until solution achieved & vac applied (~ 1 mm Hg). The solution was held under vacuum for 2 hr followed by warming to 40ºC & holding for 1 hr. The soln. was cooled to RT & opened to atmosphere. Faint menthol odor was noticed. A clear liquid was trapped in the vac. distillation which was tenatively identified by odor to be inopropanol. wt= 6.7 g theor= 7.33 g } => 91.5% recovery of formulaname The clear, viscous liquid remaining in RB flash was left uncovered for 6 days during which crystallization occured. Strong odor of menthol noted. Left to mud additional 4 days before loading into cigarettes. rest of page is empty and crossed out 1-11-80 SIGNATURE AND DATE 11/30/79 READ AND UNDERSTOOD (Signature and Date)
