Colby FROM: Wilfried Dembach SUBJECT RJR - Medical Research Projects Germany Dear Frank Reference is made to your memos dated September 4th and 13th. Attached please find another copy of my letter February 12th 1979 with attachment. This letter gives you a list of payments from day one to end of 1978. Furthermore I am attaching a list of all the payments made in 1970 until now. As you will see, we still have $24.381,65 in our medical research budget. The following payments will have to be made this year: Bjohmke $25.000,-- Lock $25.000,-- Stucker $6.00,-- Neubert $30.000,-- Henschler $22.000,-- Rüdiger $35.000,-- Jacob $28.500,-- Baltrusch $6.000,-- Total: $177.500,-- Taking into account the amount of $24.381,65 We will need $153.118,35 The differences compared to your memo of September 13th mainly arise from a different exchange rate. I am using an exchange rate of 1.75 (average October rate). With regard to Schlipköter I do not have formal approval from your side in my files. That is why a formal research contract hasn't been made yet. Please let me know what the exact title of the project is which has been approved by Winston Salem. This week I had a short telephone conversation with Dr. Düdiger and I was able to tell him that we have approved his research project. He will get a written confirmation later this week. If you have any questions on the above, please let me know. With best regards Yours W. Dembauch Encl. cc: SEW PHS
