Morse Weekly Highlights Tobacco Development Department High Priority Projects Status report attached. Consumer Complaints/Improper Wrap A task force is being formed to address problems of bad wrap associated with use of porous plug wrap and perforated tipping. Manufacturing, Quality Assurance and Tobacco Development will be represented. Special Glue Roller Two rollers were ground to apply a very limited amount of glue to the dry line and installed at Whitaker Park on #15 machine in Unit #5. The physical data on these rollers have been excellent with tar being 15.7 to 16.1 and the delta P being 17. Some lap exposure has been noted on one occasion; thus, we are grinding another roller to increase the amount of adhesive in the perforated area. The 50-mm. roller was delivering more adhesive than the 63 mm. roller, so we feel that some latitude does exist. Reduced Strip and Cut Filler Aging Physical and analytical evaluations have been received on all test parts and results indicate these products are acceptable for panel testing. Cigarettes have been placed in the environmental chambers for aging and spotting studies and plans are being made to send these cigarettes to U.S. Mail panels. Primary Processing Task Force (Trier Evaluation) Work has begun to prepare all materials for shipment to Trier. Mr. James Weis is planning on attending as Development's representative. He will be responsible for monitoring the test in Trier and coordinating the making and testing of cigarettes in Winston-Salem. Ultra Low Tar Optimization Study Tobacco blending was started last week on the Ultra Low Tar Optimization Study. Cigarette making is scheduled to begin the week of 9/22/80. J. D.
