The event, a new feature of the nine-day festival, is sponsored by Winston cigarettes, a product of R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., and WQBD-Super Q radio station. The competition is open to individuals, couples or groups. Semi-finalists, selected during competition in late February, will compete March 2 and March 9 during Winston Week activities at selected area nightclubs. Winners from the club finals will compete Saturday, March 10, for the championship title at the Winston tent during Carnaval Night. First-place winner in the championship round will take home $1,000 in prize money and will ride on the Winston float at the Winston Paseo on Sunday. The second-place winner will receive $750 and the third-place winner will be awarded $500. A cash prize of $200 will go to each first-place winner in the club finals. "Music and dancing have always been an important part of the Cuban lifestyle," said Charles Sharp, manager of special markets for R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., which manufacturers Winston cigarettes. "We see this dance contest as a way to help preserve a long-standing custom of the people of Little Havana." Winston is a product of R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., a subsidiary of R. J. The football jersey-style shirts may be obtained by presenting two empty Winston packs at any one of the redemption centers along the Paseo route after 4 p.m. Redemption center locations are indicated on the parade map by a T-shirt. T-shirt supplies are limited. They will be available, one per person, to adults, 21 years or older, as long as supplies last. The Paseo will begin at 4 p.m. at the corner of Flagler Street and 13th Avenue, and will loop continuously around the streets from 14th to 21st avenues until dusk. ***
