ExCom recommends that the Board of Directors approve the action plan for SPO 2.3 ( Attachment A). 2. ExCom recommends that the Board of Directors approve the action plan for SPO 3.4 ( Attachment B) 3. ExCom recommends that the Board of Directors establish a policy that ASHRAE design/practice standards and guidelines provide criteria to designers to accommodate both smoking and non-smoking environments. Background: As stated in the report of the January 28 ExCom meeting, the Standards Committee chairman wrote a letter dated January 27 addressed to the Board of Directors in which he asked Society leadership for guidance for SSPC 62.1. ExCom discussed this letter and agreed on answers to the questions posed in the letter; subsequently President Jackins sent a letter to the chairman stating ExCom's response and indicated the letters would be presented to the Board for consideration at the present meeting. At the spring ExCom meeting, there was further discussion of the chairman's letter and ExCom decided that a policy statement giving direction to the SSPC would be more responsive than additional discussion and debate of the issues. Based on this conclusion, ExCom passed a motion recommending that the Board establish the policy stated above. INFORMATION ITEMS: 1. ExCom approved a motion that ASHRAE co-sponsor Indoor Air 2002 by providing name and volunteer support but not financial support. Indoor Air conferences are international and are held every three years in various locations around the world. The first conference was held in 1978. ASHRAE's support of the conference is needed in order to demonstrate to the organizing committee that the U.S. contingent has ASHRAE's support. The two specific requests for the 2002 conference were that corporate sponsorships be accepted and that ASHRAE make a direct contribution of $50,000. ExCom decided that ASHRAE could not agree to either of these requests but would offer its name and volunteer to support the conference. (over)
