Daylor Date: January 19, 1981 From: A. M. Ganzert Subject: Long Term Cold Storage of Minor Brands A long term cold storage study of the minor brands of cigarettes available at the time was started April 19, 1978. These cigarettes were stored in the R&D Cold Storage Room (38 -45 F, 55%-65% R.H.) for a period of thirty months. On a monthly basis, one carton of each brand was checked for tobacco moisture content (O.V.). Menthol analyses were made on the appropriate cigarettes. The results of the tests are listed in the attached table. At the end of the thirty months storage, the cigarettes were good in appearance. There was no staining or spotting. Cigarettes of each brand were smoked and found to be adequate in flavor. The different brands showed variation in tobacco moisture levels. Also, the menthol analyses indicate changes at different rates. A. M. Ganzert AMG/sth Attachment cc: Mr. H. L. Spielberg Ms. P. J. Thomas
