Woltering President HamiLton Die Cast, Inc. 999 East Avenue Hamilton, Ohio 45011 Dear Mr. Woltering: Thanks for taking time to consider the question of the constitutionality of a possible ban on the advertising of tobacco products, and for writing to Mr. Hamish Maxwell. It is a many-sided question, and at the core freedom is paramount. You offered a wealth of background on the ACLU. Unfortunately, I am not a student of their past. Just as we feel it is our right to advertise on behalf of our products, we acknowledge your and ACLU's rights to speak out on behalf of constitutional freedoms. Beyond this, we can have no association with either Hamilton Die Cast Inc. or ACLU. Some of the participants in the Constitutional Convention had rather shocking personal histories. This does not invalidate the document. Irrespective of whatever might be the parenthood of the ACLU, their right to support (or not) constitutional issues of their choice cannot be denied by us. Sincerely, Hugh Cullman bc: H. Maxwell RECEIVED JAN 1988 HAMISH MAXWELL
