Lipowicz PERIOD COVERED: WE 2/26/93 REPORT BY: F. M. Sprinkel, 2/26/93 I. SUBJECT Special Project: A. Objective: Produce novel systems with planar substrate B. Results: Sheet materials provided by Sue Wren were tested. Low glycerin levels (2-4%) gave good sheet until put in the low humidity of the non-conditioned labs. At wintertime humidity the sheets were extremely brittle and unusable. The addition of capacitor paper to one surface of the sheet significantly smoothes one side of the sheet but the sheets do not calender well with the additional laminate. Discussions were held to start planning for a disk system using a package similar to the Cannon Digital Camera diskette. The advantages of such a system are based on the support given to the sheet disk by the cassette case and the low strength required if the sheet material is not pulled. C. Conclusions: Development of prototype devices continues as per revised project plans. D. Plans: Continue to improve motor driven device's ability to pull tobacco sheet past heater. Provide sheet materials for testing of new device now being planned. Clarify plans for new program scope, objectives and timetables with management group. cc: Willie Houck
