Since the last report, the studies of the acute hemodynamic effects of cigarette smoke in man have been extended by doubling the group of normal subjects to 32. This work was presented to the VIII World Congress of Cardiology in Tokyo in September of thisyear. A copy of the presentation with illustrations, as well as a copy of the published abstract, are enclosed. Similar studies of patients with heart disease are in progress. An in-depth study of the effects of acetaldehyde upon heart muscle in vitro is in progress. Dr. Rabinowitz' paper (reference #8) has been reviewed by Circulation. It was returned with an invitation to resubmit it with relatively minor modifications. Kindly let me have the material you had wished included at your earliest convenience.
